Renata Hannans, author of P.S. Never Give Up Hope: Advice from Youthful Offenders to Young America

Renata A. Hannans currently works as a Case Manager for Communities In Schools of Jacksonville and is tasked with the responsibilitiess of guiding at-risk high school students during the pivotal moments of their teenage years. Growing up in similar circumstances and surrounded by crime activity that often struck close to home, Renata was immediately drawn to the mission of assisting teenagers who struggle with the day to day challenges of peer pressure and environmental influences. She is extremely passionate about inspiring students to strive for the best, and vows to offer an infinite amount of support in the midst of equipping them with the necessary tools to succeed. 

Renata’s niche for criminal law was discovered at an early age, immediately stemming from her recollection of sitting in on her first trial as a public observer. Witnessing the legalities and strict rules of the justice system prompted an intense desire to offer beneficial help to young juveniles who face the long-term consequences of a life-altering decision. Fully aware of the racial disparities that currently exist in the legal structure, Renata strives to carefully lead young men and women who aspire to learn from their mistakes and become more than just a product of their environment. Renata humbly accepts her title as a role model, adviser, and friend to young adults who rely on her daily for a single ounce of encouragement, always reminding them to never give up hope.

Never Give Up Hope chronicles the lives of 10 current and former youthful offenders as they candidly share details of the mistakes, consequences, and regrets surrounding the irreversible crimes they committed. Although their crimes range from drug abuse to robbery and murder, each inmate has one thing in common: They were all teenagers when they were arrested and sentenced to their respective terms in prison. This book provides them with an opportunity to deliver a firsthand account of the crimes they were charged with, along with a request for forgiveness from those who were deeply affected by their actions.
