Who would you recommend this book to?
Adults ages 21-45

What did you like most about this book?
The novel had several messages that dealt with serious relational issues such as domestic abuse and cheating which I liked. Domestic abuse was really showcased with Malcolm and Trina and went deep into showing how easy it was to get caught up in that situation. With the characters, Shireece and Sean, I appreciated the fact that the novel delved deep into marital issues concerning communication or the lack thereof and testing the strengths and the wills of the holy union. The author added another element with straying from religious beliefs and how that also impacts daily living and marital decisions. Most of all, I loved the triumphs of the story showcasing how good relationships between partners can help heal even the most vile past experiences with the characters Qu and Tierra. The individual characters were well developed, as each one had their own personality and were very distinct in dialogue and narrative.

What did you like least about this book?
While the book touched on a plethora of several issues the execution of the plot was not good. In certain less important areas, the book dragged longer than necessary and in areas that were highly climatic they often felt rushed as if the author was trying to hurry and get through it. The book was also very poorly edited. There were several instances of simple errors such as a huge amount of misspellings. It almost appeared as if it was typed with an auto-correct feature that kept changing words such as "so" to "do" and things such as that nature. There were also crucial errors with incorrect character names even in one area having the author's name in the story instead of the character. The formatting was very poor where it would end at half a page but still be in the middle of a chapter and phrases were capitalized in unnecessary areas to show emotion. I also did not like Qu's full character name of Aquarian Skeene. It did not flow well and it takes longer to figure out how to pronounce as you read.

Any suggestions for how this book could have been better?
First, I would definitely suggest the author to use spell check and to get a highly qualified editor. I would also recommend that the author practice on plot development and execution, in particular, learning areas where it is okay to be brief and to the point and when the story should extend to keep the reader engaged in the moment. This will also help make some of the more climatic areas more believable.

What was your overall impression of this book?
Overall, the book is just okay. It doesn't hold interest long because the insignificant parts really do drag entirely too long. I had to re-read sentences several times due to the gross amount of errors. The book is not one that I would re-read again unless it was better executed and edited at least for the misspellings. I really believe this book had a lot of potential simply based of the concept and the storyline. If it had been executed better this truly could have been a dynamic read. It was also highly predictable to be listed as a mystery.

Who would you recommend this book to?
Women, Men, and Book Clubs

What did you like most about this book?
I loved the way the story started. The dialogue of the story is strong and captures you from the first chapter. This book is definitely a page turner. Very vivid writing. Women and Men need to read this. There is a very valuable lesson to learn from this book. The decisions one makes will effect not only you but others. We need to build courage from within to survive to build the life we want to live

What did you like least about this book?
What I liked least about the book is something that cannot be changed. I don't like and wish that women would not let someone, whether a man or woman get the best of them and to allow their emotions to get out of hand.

Any suggestions for how this book could have been better?
I have no suggestions on how the book could be better. The cover is good, the storyline and the characters fit the book title perfectly.

What was your overall impression of this book?
My overall impression of the book was that I love it. The storyline was great and is something that is happening in real life. The story read as if I was watching a lifetime movie. The main character Belinda is a true life character. Belinda is married to a dermatologist. Belinda's husband has had a number of affairs and with each affair Belinda has had confrontation with the person. This one confrontation lands Belinda in prison on an attempted murder charge. Belinda losses her lifestyle, family, and her soul. As you read about Belinda's struggles, sorrows, stress and the life lessons she learns along the way, you will be in awe

Who would you recommend this book to?

Everyone

What did you like most about this book?

I liked that the author, Tremayne Moore, was not afraid to subject the reader to the idea that in all things, even those things that you would least expect, God is present. I liked that the narrator's answer to most issues was to pray for forgiveness, no matter the circumstances, no matter how wrong or right, no matter the victim or perpetrator, pray for their forgiveness instead of breeding violence and contempt.

What did you like least about this book?

I disliked that there was no mention of anyone being brought to justice for the abuse committed to this child, although I understand it; not all stories have a silver lining or just ending.

Any suggestions for how this book could have been better?

I wouldn't change anything about this book.

What was your overall impression of this book?

Overall, I think that this was a well-researched and well written book. Tremayne Moore went to a place where most are afraid to venture and in doing so he shed light on a very dark part of our society. The people who were supposed to protect, guide, and love Michael Anderson, were the ones who hurt him the most. His mother's physical and verbal abuse was so unbearable it led Michael to doing the unthinkable. His father lacked the necessary understanding and consideration it took to raise a man and led Michael astray. Michael suffered at the hands of his vile uncle and while he prayed for forgiveness and understanding his abuse only continued. Tremayne Moore did an excellent job with his delivery of such a strong and poignant message and I hope that it does not fall on deaf ears.

Who would you recommend this book to?
Mary Green

What did you like most about this book?
It was a good book. It held my attention, but sometimes it had a lot going on.

What did you like least about this book?
I couldn't stand the lead character, Sharise. She was really naive and stupid at times. People allowed her to get away with too much.

Any suggestions for how this book could have been better?
No.

What was your overall impression of this book?
My overall impression of the book was it was well written and it kept my attention. The characters were all intriguing and had their own situations and drama to deal with. The situations were relatable and I felt myself being drawn in by all that happened. Given that I enjoyed this story, I would read another novel by her. The only thing that I wanted was for the lead character to have learned a lesson from all the mayhem she caused, but that was just my hope. It's not something the author had to do. Just my suggestion.

Who would you recommend this book to?
Colleagues

What did you like most about this book?
The tale of love lost and found was amazingly beautiful. To experience a love as pure as the characters’ is elating.

What did you like least about this book?
There were times when I felt the author could have put forth a little more action, but something just wasn't there. While the plot of the story was good, it didn't hold my attention quite like I expected.

Any suggestions for how this book could have been better?
Focus more on developing the plot.

What was your overall impression of this book? (Response must be between 75-100 words)
Remona was raised by her grandmother and never got a chance to know her mother. She was showered with love and compassion as a small child, but then tragedy struck and she was forced to relocate to a place of pure hell. Her childhood was stripped from her and love, as she knew it, ceased to exist. Lee changed that for her. He helped her find love again and they prospered as a couple. Their happiness was also cut short because of things they failed to control and bad decisions. The author focused more on descriptions and surrounding factors than the story itself. I want descriptions and scenery to pull me into the story so that I feel as though I'm actually experiencing it first-hand, but I felt more lost and disinterested. It took me quite some time to focus and actually finish the book.

Who would you recommend this book to?
Other Word Artists

What did you like most about this book?
The courage of the author to put her personal life on paper for anyone to read.

What did you like least about this book?
The sadness of the poetry.

What was your overall impression of this book? (Response must be between 75-100 words)
I found it difficult to connect with the poetry because some of it was painful. Poetry is someone’s personal journey through life. If shared with others, poetry can give us only a glimpse of their joy or pain. The author gave her view on life, love, and relationships. Our lives don't always follow a smooth path and she showed us some of the rough paths that we can take to still move forward. I must commend her for her courage to share her life with us.

NEW BOOK REVIEW: The Absolution of Zero by Meleisa Betts

8/2/2013

Picture
Meleisa Betts is a well-spoken, articulate writer that has a special gift with words and a unique ability to pull readers into the world of the characters she creates. Her debut book, The Absolution of Zero is a familiar story told in an unusual kind of way. Although I wasn’t impressed too much by the cover or the title, the way the author lays out the story and breathes life into the characters by giving them a distinct voice of their own will keep readers turning the pages. What I love the most about this book, that’s rarely seen in first person narrative fiction novels is the author’s ability to connect with the readers through the transparency and genuineness of the characters.

It’s a story that stimulates the mind and captures the soul.

I’ve already told family and friends about it and will be on the lookout for more great books by Meleisa Betts. Rating: 5 stars

NEW BOOK REVIEW: Lovely Lies by LaShanta Charles

8/2/2013

Picture
Writing an intriguing fiction novel that’s full of suspense, drama, and violence seems to be the norm nowadays. But writing a story that resonates with readers and carries an indelible message wrapped around the suspense, drama, and action is hard to come by.

LaShanta Charles earns her literary stripes with her first novel, Lovely Lies. She takes the reader on an unfamiliar journey with two characters, Makynzee (who is not the smartest girl in the world when it comes to love and relationships) and Khalil, her estranged lover who appears to be her knight and shining armor until the truth hits the fan and all hell begins to break loose.

This story is well-paced and well written. It’ll have you tapping your foot, beating your leg, and shaking your head. It’s a jaw-dropping, tantalizing, and motivating story that any reader can easily sink his/her teeth into.

The dialogue was entertaining and straight to the point which keeps the story moving right along. I loved how LaShanta ends the story in a way that is least expected. This ending is one that will take you by surprise. Get your hands on a copy. I know you will love it. Rating: 5 stars
