James Turner III was born and raised in the drug infested Gem City (Dayton, Ohio) and became a product of his environment when he was introduced to the dope game and fast money that came along with it. It did not take him long to get entrapped in the lifestyle and spoils that came with his riches. But he quickly learned that the game LOVED NO ONE and found out just how treacherous the game could be when he received a ten year prison sentence.
While dong his time he worked on a blue print to take the dope game by storm when he touched down, but as the years dragged by and he seen friends being snatched up by the Feds and getting football numbers in prison or even V.I.P. passes to the funeral home and grave yard that caused him to reevaluate his plan and realize that oatmeal beat no meal any day. He became an avid reader of Urban Street Lit, because many of the stories were telling one similar to his and the lifestyle he was living outside of the walls he was trapped behind. During a visit to one of the prisons he was serving time he had a chance encounter with Vicki M, Stringer the founder and owner of Triple Crown Publications who had the prisons and streets on lock at the time with their array of street titles. After a conversation and a finding of his knowledge of a great deal of Triple Crown’s titles he was offered a job as an manuscript reader which was right up his alley because it meant free books since he was not permitted to profit while incarcerated. During his stint as a proof reader Triple Crown published two of the manuscripts that he was a proof reader on so he officially had his foot in the literary world. James nurtured his own writing skills through love letters to the outside and proposals within the prison and as chance would have it again he became a published author when he won a writing contest and had a short story Searching For Change included in Tainted Mirror An Anthology published by Pen Of The Writer. After being released from prison James rekindled his relationship with Triple Crown and began to work on his own manuscript, but that was short lived and he put his pen down when his old flame the game came calling his name. This time around he was knee deep in the heroin game, but the game LOVED NO ONE and he was forced to lay it down again. So with nothing but time on his hands he picked up his pen and began telling a story about how the heroin epidemic mangled the Gem City. He was released this time with manuscript in hand and one day while telling someone about his manuscript he was told to contact Shaunta Kenerly the owner of Kenerly Presents Publications and the rest is history. James signed with kenerly Presents Publications and his first release is HANKING In Love With The Game. Many stories come with getting money good and bad so ride with him through the streets of the Gem City while he tells you what people will do for that paper. About his book, HANKING In Love With The Game This is a story about the drug infested streets of Dayton, Ohio. And a tale of how the heroin epidemic mangled the city, and produced some hustlers who were doing some big time hanking, and getting major money in the process. Roscoe Evans was a dope boy's dope boy when he unexpectantly caught a ten year bid and had to lay it down. He was on top when crack cocaine was the name of the game, but while he was down the game dramatically changed. When he came home it was, either roll with it or get rolled over. The choice was his. He had made a promise that he wanted to keep, but he was confused and always had been about his paper. So what is he supposed to do? Keep his promise or eat and get some of the money that was flowing through the streets of the Gem City? The streets and the game caused him to miss the love of his life and they both killed with no remorse. But what will he do when his past unknowingly revisits him? Imagine had love for her man, but she had to do what she thought was right. She left Dayton hoping to never return, but would find herself having to come back when something unexpected happens and ends up causing her to have to do some explaining of her own. If you can't love or trust the one you want, then love the game and ask yourself. WHAT WILL YOU DO FOR THAT PAPER????? Purchase Link http://hankingthebook.wixsite.com/jamesturner Name 3 things about yourself readers may not know I have lived my stories for real I done 10 years straight in prison I am not the person I used to be What is your biggest inspiration? My biggest inspiration is accomplishing something that people where I come from did not believe I could do. It is hard to get encouragement when everyone around you dreams are broken and every door has been closed in their face. What led up to you becoming an author? I really wanted to be behind the scenes even though I had won some writing contest in the past with one of my writings even being published but I had this story that just kept coming together in my head so once I sat down and wrote it I took my shot at a publishing deal and got it on my first attempt. How would you describe your writing style? I would describe it as raw and uncut, because I'm giving you tales from the hood from personal experiences with no filter, because I think you have to express it that way in order to capture people’s emotions so they can feel the story and just not read it. What would you say is the most important thing an author should do before publishing his/her book? Of course have it edited lol. But make sure they are ready to put in the work, because writing the book is the easy part and you are only going to get out what you put in. If you could go back and change one thing about your book, what would it be? I think I would change the fact that I took so long to sit down and bring it to fruition. The concept and story line kept playing in my mind like a movie and no matter what I was going through in life at the time I could not shake the vision of this story and there just came a time when I had to sit down and give birth to Hanking In Love With The Game. When you’re not writing, what are you doing? Trying to find ways to improve my craft, promoting, researching and working on other business ventures that I am involved with. And constantly pushing my brand. How can readers and others in the literary community reach you? [email protected] Facebook @Hanking Twitter @JusGitIt IG @MrJusGitIt K.L. When did you first decide you wanted to become an author? My oldest sister died from breast cancer. But before she died, she made me promise her to pursue my dream of writing and becoming an Author. For years, she knew my desire to do so. In August of 2014, I kept my promise to her by penning my first novel in my Ask Me Again series. How did you decide on the idea for your 1st book? 2nd book? 3rd book, etc? My first book Ask Me Again was titled with a line that I heard the great Billy Dee Williams, say in a movie once. One series was titled from a song, I have even dreamed a couple of titles, others were thought over and talked over with my family or publisher. How long did it take you to complete your first book? What was the process like? I spent over a year writing my first book. The process was very hard for me because I wrote it while grieving my sister's death. I was depressed but it helped me by writing through my depression and pain. What’s so rewarding about writing books and being an author? I have had someone tell me thank you for writing this story. They said, this character was me at one time. Thank you for writing about redemption and second chances. The conversation humbled me. If my readers get what I'm trying to convey through my writing, it's all worthwhile. Was there ever a time you felt like giving up? There have been many times when I have felt like giving up but then I think about why I started to write in the first place. That is what keep me pushing forth. There’s more to being an author than writing a book. How do you manage to handle the business side of things? I am still learning the business side of things. There is so much to take in and understand. I am learning about marketing my books, targeting an audience, etc. There is so much more I need to know and I am willing to listen to others who has the knowledge. Do you have an editor or do you edit your own books? My publisher acquires the editors for my books. Who does the cover art for your book(s)? The Publisher uses a designer for my books. In the past I have used a designer's named Bryant Sparks and Tammy Capri. Do you ever encounter writer’s block? How do you get past it? Whenever I encounter writer's block, I will read or either watch a good movie. How often do you write? I try to write everyday. But whenever I don't write, I will read. I try to keep my mind active. Tell us about your last book signing. I haven't had a traditional book signing but I was invited last fall to this library function to bring my books. I did sign and sale a few. I was beyond honored. Beside social media, what other methods are you using to get the word out about your book(s)? I have business cards with my information on it. I will pass them out if people are interested in reading. I keep books in my car whenever I go out, in case I run in to a reader. Some of my readers also help to get the word out about me. I appreciate their help tremendously. As a Woman of Color, what inspires you the most? Growing up, I wrote poetry. Maya Angelou is one such woman that inspired me. It showed me how incredible black women like her, Rosa Parks and others could change history. They left a legacy for all the generations to come. Who is your biggest influence? God is my greatest influence. Have you ever done something in the past you regret? How did you get through it? I regret growing up shy. It limited me from being outgoing and missing out on certain things because I was too timid to put myself in certain situations that could enhance my growth. How do you get through the tough times in life when life throws what it throws at you? I pray without ceasing. My faith in God is what gets me through good times and the not so good times in life. What is one goal you want to accomplish for yourself in 2013? I want to write more books in 2017 and I want my books to help the reader in some way. What do you have planned next? I am always planning or plotting out my next story. How can readers and others in the literary community reach you?
