​UBAWA's Top 100 Authors is an annual list published at the end of every year to celebrate the many talented authors whose work often goes unnoticed. Congratulations to the following authors below who were nominated and chosen by readers as UBAWA'S Top 100 Authors of 2022.

UBAWA'S Top 100 Authors of 2022 will be published in the 45th issue of the UBAWA Magazine and featured in the next edition of Who's Who in Urban Literature. If no one else takes the time out to recognize the hard work that many independent authors put in day-to-day, we will. It's been our mission and commitment since 2010 and we are happy that you and thousands of others can join us in giving these authors their props. ​

G B Lynch is a 70's baby that grew up with supportive and encouraging parents and 3 older brothers. A variety of interests led to a discovery of untapped talents. A love of reading morphed into a passion for writing. So, she began to pen a collection of poetry.  Poetry became her escape when she was an adolescent. She wrote about her surroundings as well as young relationships. Those writings became the foundation for the author she is today.   
 
Other talents revealed themselves along the way. This created a path to acting in stage plays, singing in talent shows, ballet dance recitals, performing in a school marching band and learning to do arts and crafts. With different forms of creativity, she was almost bursting at the seams. Never a dull moment!
 
For 34 years G has been married to her soul mate. They have been on a wonderful journey of love and laughter. They love to travel and form memories as they go. With the highs and lows of life, their bond grows stronger. They have a beautiful family including a daughter, son-n-law and a granddaughter.
 
G's published books- the bestseller ‘We Are Still Supposed To Be Slaves: The chronicles of being Black in America’ will be a multi-book series. It seeks to rehydrate the historical drought in America. The cookbook ‘Soul Food’s Road To Culinary Decadence’ shares the often unknown history behind some favorite recipes. Lastly, she is a co-author of the #1 bestseller book ‘The Blueprint: Making Boss Moves’ which gives an amazing collaborative insight from 11 women on what it takes to be a Girl Boss.

About her book
 
It is my goal to try to change the world one heart and one mind at a time by publishing written and verbal content that matters. My current published works reveal hidden Black History as well as advice to women in business. I am trying to provide a path to the direct connection from our ancestors’ past to our present. I consider Black History to be everyone’s American History. It is my belief that this history should be shared will all Americans. We all should know or want to know the past to prevent unwanted repeats in the present and the future.
 
I have a passion for history and people. The need in this country to provide assistance to the ‘have nots’ is at an extremely high level. I am looking to be part of the solution. I want to help those that struggle with day-to-day life. My vision of opening a campus that provides varying services for people in need will happen one day. My vision has a property that would include private rooms, a cafeteria for meals, employment, interview and job attire assistance, with medical and mental health services.  Sometimes people just need a little help to get back to their normal lives.
 
In addition to my published books thus far, I also write Horror, Drama, and Comedy. I have a variety of interests and try to diversify my writings. I plan to reveal some of those other works in the future. I want to create a collection that can be enjoyed by all. I believe that most of us are not one dimensional. We have a variety of interests and tastes. All of that will be revealed as I continue to evolve as a writer and build my platform.
 
With all of my writer stuff going on, I’m also a self-proclaimed foodie. I love food. I love cooking for other people and watching them enjoy their food. I find treasure in the interactions shared with people during a meal. Often the purest form of a person appears when around the kitchen. I feel there’s no better way to show your love than to cook for someone. Cooking and eating provides the opportunity for connecting and bonding. It also nourishes the soul.
 
Many people didn’t know that as a young girl I had crippling stage fright. My mother taught me that the power was within me to do whatever I want to do in this world. She said that power sits dormant until I decide to unleash it.  My stage fright was a huge problem since I was involved in the performing arts. I was always involved in stage plays, solo singing performances, dance recitals, marching school bands, and school chorus. All of that performing in front of audiences still didn’t fix my stage fright. Mom instilled in me that I was stronger and more fierce than my fear. My fear didn’t disappear overnight but the show had to go on. Her words allowed me to move forward with the things that I loved to do then as well as today.
 
My mother also gave me the greatest piece of advice that I have ever received. She told me “People are gonna talk about you whether it’s something bad or something good. Try to make it something good but that is not always within your control. Doing good is in the eye of the beholder.” Those words have always helped me. When dealing with the many negatives of the world, her words keep me grounded. With today’s Social Media, people can be cruel at times. It’s very easy to get caught up with the negatives. I don’t allow myself to go to that place. Mom was the most inspiring person that I have ever known. Without question. She spewed words of wisdom on the regular. I did not always understand that some of our conversations were not for that time but for me to use in the future. My Mother passed away when I was 22 years old. It is truly amazing the amount of life’s lessons that I learned from her in those 22 years.
 
Looking to 2023, I have interviews, book signings, speaking engagements and a new book to be released. I will continue the efforts to build my brand ‘G B Lynch’. I am working diligently to create name recognition. People, small companies and large corporations work hard and invest  financially to create brand recognition. It’s an amazing thing when your brand is known globally. That is my goal.  I am my brand. The efforts of today create the foundation of tomorrow.

I write urban fiction, urban romance/erotica, and poetry. I have been an author since April 2002 but I feel that I have been a writer all my life. I started writing poetry in 1999. That is when I discovered that I could do this thing called writing. In 2002, I attempted to write my first novel but never finished it, only writing a chapter. Without really knowing, I put the pen down and never picked it back up. It was in 2021, that I was encouraged to re-visit and finish the book. Once I completed it in 2021, I published the first book to my series called The Code Keepers Esha’s Side A in April of 2022. In August of 2022, I released my second book of the series called The Code Keepers Chris’ Side B. Then I followed up with my third book in this series called The Code Keepers ShonTay and the Fellas which was just published in December 2022. I have plans to write more books and even try writing in other genres. I also, plan to write and finish a poetry book in the near future.

The Code Keepers Series is about a group of young adults who grow up in a neighborhood with a past full of secrets and history. Iesha, Chris, ShonTay, Mike Mike, Tim, Jayron, and Shawn discover the secrets after one of their own is killed. This event leads them into other uncovered secrets that they were not prepared for. Some personal, some well-known to only a few. They had been training under the guidance of Ronte, Chris and ShonTay’s dad,  and Coach Phil, Iesha’s dad, since they were kids. However, what they thought they were being trained for was only half of the story. The group stumbles into some secrets that have them discovering things from their past that have been buried. They learn along the way, from a few elders in the neighborhood, that they were trained to do so much more…to save their violent community.

Pyper Chanel is a self-published author based in Washington, DC. Always having a passion for reading, it wasn’t until a creative writing class in high school triggered her passion further into writing. Creating dozens of short stories and writing a movie, Pyper Chanel knew she could go far. In 2008, she tried her hand and wrote When the Smoke Clears. Friends loved the story and wanted to see more work from her. However, life came first and it wasn’t until 2021 that she published her fist novella. 

Pyper Chanel loved creating characters that not only readers can identify with but jumped off the page to pull you in the story with them. She wants her readers to feel as if they are part of the page and can relate to the character in such a way that they can learn life lessons along the way in real life.

Raised in Washington, D.C. and Prince George's County, Maryland, Jodaéa attended Bowie State University in Bowie, Maryland, as well as Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. She is also a Registered Nurse and Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc member.

Jodaéa began her literary journey in 2008, chronicling her past experiences. She says her inspirations come from recalling past experiences, adding an element of fiction, and a shocking twist, then let the stories write themselves! Every situation in her novels is based in fact, with fictional backstories. However, there is always a lesson to be learned in the end! Jodaéa's novels are cross-genre projects with drama, psychological terror, romance, and mystery elements. Her novels have been reviewed internationally in South Africa, India, and Palestine.

Jodaea explains, "I know my stories are interesting, entertaining, and insightful. My novels have stories within the story. Because most avid readers love instant gratification through literary escapes, my novels are quick reads. I don't employ useless trivia or insignificant narration to fill pages. I love to keep my readers pulled into my stories by appealing to their five senses. What are the characters feeling, tasting, smelling, hearing, and seeing? I try not to give the reader a chance to put my book down!"

2021 Author of the Year nominee by ACHI Magazine, Jodaéa is currently working on her fourth novel, set to be released soon. Additionally, her most beloved venture, the Novels By Jodaéa Individual Excellence Scholarship, will re-open its application process in January 2023!

Coach Ashley Blanshaw is originally from Brooklyn, New York. Among the plethora of honors and accolades, SVP won three African American Literary Awards in 2019, two for Hell at The Way Station (Best Anthology and Best in Science Fiction) and one for Best Independent Publisher. He’s written about everything from sleep demons to the Harlem Hellfighters of WWI for episodes of the YouTube series’ Extra Credit.  He’s also been a contributing comedy writer for Viral Vignettes, a YouTube series benefitting the Actor’s Fund. His sketch Bandmates, starring TV legends John Schneider and Max Gail, won Best Comedy Skit in the 1st Monthly Film Festival and earned a Special Mention in the Original Screenplay category.
