The Forbidden Secrets of the Goody Box by Valerie J Lewis Coleman (Dayton, Ohio)

What your father didn’t tell you and your mother didn’t know

Successful. Beautiful. Intelligent. Yet a satisfying relationship eludes Debra Hampton. At thirty-five years old, she can’t figure out why her philosophy on men—and what they want from women—isn’t working. She’s trapped in a cycle of shattered relationships, until a friend refers her to a relationship guru. After some resistance, Debra finds refuge in his counsel as he helps her navigate through the storms of rejection and failed love. Once he reveals the error of her ways, will Debra master the forbidden secrets to attract her soul mate or continue to keep love at bay?

Differences in how men and women communicate, think and act have forged a seemingly impassable canyon between the sexes. And once a person’s heart has been broken, a play-or-get-played mentality can result in busted car windows, stalking and other means of revenge; thus further expanding the great divide.

The Forbidden Secrets of the Goody Box enlightens and empowers women to work toward building satisfying romantic relationships. The book appeals to readers who loved Steve Harvey’s Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man and Michael J. Lockwood’s Women Have All the Power – Too Bad They Don’t Know It. No other fiction succeeds in offering women an entertaining and undeniably unique perspective on what your father didn’t tell you and your mother didn’t know.

What readers are saying about “The Forbidden Secrets of the Goody Box”

“A brilliant writer. I love her work. The characters are so real, so rich and fleshed out so well. You hit the nail on the head with these women. Can I have the rights to the movie?” --Mother Love, TV and Radio show host of The Mother Love Show | TheMotherLoveShow.com

“Coleman lays the hard-hitting arsenal out in the open in this refreshing and looong-awaited new spin on an ageless battle to tame the flesh! Goody Box book is not just a novel, but a woman’s must-have, must-READ handbook full of great teachings and insight on reaching personal and relational fulfillment. The Goody Box Book will have you pledging heart-gasm before orgasm!” --Dr. Vivi Monroe Congress, author of Manna for Mamma and The Bankrupt Spirit | DrViviMonroeCongress.com

“I read The Goody Box Book and applied the tips. After years of failed relationships, heart breaks and disappointments, I made a few changes to my dating practices and attracted a wonderful man. We just celebrated our first wedding anniversary! If I found love in the pages of this book, then you can too! --Carmen Williams Banks

UBAWA: Who did you write this book for?
Valerie: Women who want to better understand the ways of men. Whether married or single, the wisdom infused in this entertaining story has helped thousands of women.

Since its release, I have found that just as many men purchase the book. When I surveyed them as to why they would purchase a book written for women, I discovered the following:
1. Some men wanted to see if I knew what I was talking about. I have not been challenged yet.
2. Some men wanted to learn the secrets in an attempt to use them against women. Awful!
3. Most men use it as a tool to empower the important women in their lives. Especially fathers who don't want their daughters to connect with the type of men they "used to be."

UBAWA: How did you come up with the idea for this book?
Valerie: After years of failed relationships, I believed that I would never find a quality man to share my life. But when I took focus off of what I didn't have and delved into what I did have, my husband came to my front door, literally! Although I had walked "the aisle," many of my girlfriends were still in the vicious relationship game and asked me for advice.

Not fully understanding what I did to attract my husband, I researched hundreds of men to find out why they do what they do in relationships. Combining my experience with feedback from men, The Forbidden Secrets of the Goody Box was born!

UBAWA: What do you want readers to take away from this book?
Valerie: Beyond being an entertaining read, The Goody Box book has been labeled "The Black Sex and the City without all the sex in the city." I want my readers to have a better understanding of how the opposite sex communicates, thinks, and acts in relationships.

My life philosophy is "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for a life time." Lao Tzu. I want to empower women to relational fulfillment by avoiding the snares of hunters, knowing what they want/need in a relationship, and most importantly, loving self above all others.

It delves deep into several societal issues that are often not discussed in households amongst families such as sex and pregnancy. However, it also focuses on other issues that surround these sensitive topics such as lack of self love, single parenting, and domestic abuse to name a few. It is filled with memorable and relatable characters who you will either love, hate or have a love-hate feeling towards.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read!!!!!! (May 16, 2013)
This book pulled me in. From teenage pregnancy to being put out by your mother, to living the fast life; young love, infatuation, as well as regretful decisions, betrayal and manipulation of the female mind. Anyone woman who has had struggles trying to raise her kids knows the feeling of stretching a dollar. Author Untamed you really took me on a Roller Coaster ride - This book was filled with humor and some deep down real straighten up and fly right type of lessons. Talk about learning life's lessons, hmmm... (in the words of Kevin Hart, "you gonna learn today). I know this book has really hit home with a lot of readers. Either you have been through the same situation or maybe something similar or know someone or even heard of someone who has. Bring on Part 2 - I'm ready for another roller-coaster ride with Author Untamed. Great Job!!! I highly recommend this book. -- By K. Townsend

5.0 out of 5 stars REAL LIFE (February 13, 2013)
To say this story captured me is an understatement. Not only does Ms. Untamed live up to her name giving you the good the bad and the ugly of single parenthood, she gives you the untamed truth of everyday struggle for parents who aren't "together." This book is truly needed to be read not just by single mothers trying to hold on but women before they even get in the situation. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR PART TWO! -- LadyP

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing book (January 9, 2013)
This is an amazing book and will keep you hooked from the first page. The author really brought the characters to life and made you feel like you knew each one of them personally. This book is a great read for the young and the old and would be a great book for young ladies who are in high school or early college years and are thinking about having sex. Again I love the book, the author is amazing and I can't wait for the next book. -- Kim

UBAWA: Who did you write this book for?
Untamed: The book is written for young adult women. Although, anyone can read this book and relate to it on some level.

UBAWA: How did you come up with the idea for this book?
Untamed: I came up with this idea because of my challenges with being a single parent and teen mom. I also pulled inspiration from different stories I've heard over the years.

UBAWA: What do you want readers to take away from this book?
Untamed: There are several take aways I'd like to see come from this book. For young women and men, I want them to see real life consequences and the unforeseen circumstances that come from having sex and having children at a young age. I'd also like to see young woman learn to love themselves and strive for more within themselves. Lastly, I'd like for parents and children to develop bonds and learn to talk about those important issues and pressures that oftentimes are kept silent.

Scattered Pieces by Nanette Buchanan (Somerset, New Jersey)

Picture
Gathering the pieces of her life, Janet must find the strength to fight. A need for rest, an accidental overdose, and an afternoon nap have changed her life. Confronted with her manipulative husband, and the fear of losing her children, Janet must find the strength to cope. As her need to rebuild her character and self-esteem become her goal, Janet faces reality. Searching through the "Scattered Pieces" of her past she must face her therapist, sister and husband before they push her over the edge.

# of pages: 356

What are readers saying about Scattered Pieces

5.0 out of 5 stars Broken (April 28, 2013)
Janet Robinson is on the verge of self-destruction. With her husband now living with another woman and with no means of financial support from him, it is not only a mental strain but also a financial one. Being a stay at home mother for so long leaves her inexperienced in the working world, which has her on edge because she realizes that she will not qualify for most jobs. With her savings dwindling down to nothing, Janet has to find a way to not only pay the bills but to put food on the table for her children. Being backed into a corner, she has to either find employment so she can take care of her kids or go down to the welfare office. After a long day she comes home "tired" of it all, taking too many pills just to rest, Janet accidentally overdoes.

When she awakens, Janet now has a new worry. With her accidental overdose, her husband may try to take the children from her, and Janet is determined not to let that happen. Ordered to see a psychiatrist, she soon blossoms into the strong woman she had inside her that she did not realize was there and refuses to let anyone take away her joy again. She even manages to teach a little something to the one that counsels her.

Scattered Pieces by Nanette Buchanan was a beautifully written novel. Anyone can relate to this novel, especially single mothers trying to take care of their kids on their own with no help. Sometimes life can get so overwhelming, we all need to rest at some point. Sometimes you may want to sleep the pain or troubles you may be going through away. Sometimes it may be a fleeting thought, but you may even consider suicide as being better. Ms. Buchanan captures the emotional aspect of a woman and her pain at feeling alone in the world and the fact that indeed things do look better with time. And all you need is just to hold on a little longer and reach down inside yourself and pull the inner strength that you have and you will come out of whatever it is you are going through ok. Depression is not a weakness it is just a state of something you may be going through but remember with the right people in your life and maybe with some counseling you will get through it. Don't give up! Something better is waiting for you around the corner. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who ever had a fleeting thought and felt like giving up. Although this is only a work of fiction it was an excellent novel that will leave a lasting impression even after you finish. -- L. Romich "Book Nympho" (Akron, Ohio)

UBAWA: Who did you write this book for?
Nanette: Women who suffer low esteem and  are dealing with problems that often overwhelm them and push them to the edge. Often when on the edge, or cornered, the stress and depression tends to drive them to seek outlets. If not alcohol, illegal or prescription drugs, or the idea of escaping, sleeping for hours, being alone and withdrawn becomes an answer to their struggles. They live daily in turmoil and become weary, tired and lost.

It is my hope that readers, those with similar issues and those who know others with these issues can identify with the characters and the situation. Suicide is a killer, and often can be avoided, I wrote this novel with the hope that it will alert people and give others hope.

UBAWA: How did you come up with the idea for this book?
Nanette: I've had those days when I just wanted the world to stop...... I needed to just pause and get it together. During the pause we know things continue. Our delay in reactions and our day of pause doesn't stop anything else. Being frustrated, stressed, confused we often make mistakes in decisions. We take on new problems, new mistakes, new confusion and find we're buried. I've been there. If it wasn't for my self-esteem, my strengths out weighing my weaknesses I may have been on the same path as my character "Janet."

Women need to cling on to their self-worth; the value of self will conquer the internal and external problems we encounter. Learning that we must love ourselves as much as we love others can make the difference when we lose what or who we love the most.

UBAWA: What do you want readers to take away from this book?
Nanette: The love of self, the importance of being independent before during and after a relationship is key. We have to know who we are as men and women so when other descriptions are given we can attach ourselves to those that truly identify our strengths in weakened moments.

Picture
Black People Can’t Be Republican is a collection of short stories based in Anytown, USA that explores viewpoints from various angles in a debate format—not only about political party affiliations, but other hot-button topics common in the community, such as the N-word, homosexuality, “thick” versus “fat”, and sagging pants.

# of pages: 101

What readers are saying about “Black People Can’t be Republican”

“Lewis leaps out of the box and pushes the limits of taboo conversations with these short stories. The thought provoking questions at the end of each story will force you to answer (or at least think) about the tough questions we never want to talk about in public: Homosexuality, Black Republicans, the use of the N-word and many more. You will be challenged by this read and every household should have these open and honest discussions on these controversial topics.”

UBAWA: Who did you write this book for?

James: For anyone with an open mind to "pro" and "con" arguments involving long-standing issues in the black community.

UBAWA: How did you come up with the idea for this book?

James: Debates I've heard over the years, but the true spark came from discussions in barbershops.

UBAWA: What do you want readers to take away from this book?

James: I'd love the reader to think outside the box and hopefully make him or her say, "hmmmm, that's actually a good point." Ultimately, I'd like to find solutions to problems that have festered for far too long.

Picture
Revenge of the Orgasm is an erotic autobiography. G.P.A. , the phenomenal poetic Unsub, gives you all the contents of a "tell all" but with a gentleman's discretion. Revenge takes the reader on a sensual journey with poetic verse as the vehicle, which he or she will not wish to end.

# of pages: 58

What readers are saying about Revenge of the Orgasm

5.0 out of 5 stars Revenge Can Be So Sweet  (April 30, 2013)
One thing for sure you have to be a lover of GPA's poetic style to be able to take in and enjoy his words. He is like no other;  he's GPA...a refreshing type of voice in the world of poetic words and style. Your mind must be open and your imagination ready to take it on.

I have had the pleasure of reading and reviewing GPA's previous art, so I knew exactly what to expect. I read and received it without disappointment. It was an anticipated read that he marks as his "Erotic Biography". Couldn't help but love that he is allowing us to know that side of him...not in a harsh out right nasty erotic tone but in a soft sensual type of way that will have your mind wandering and if you are not careful will definitely take you there.

"Revenge of the Orgasm" left me again saying wow GPA, you've done it again. In true GPA style all of the pieces in this book gave a play on words but were easily understood to where he was going with it.

One of my favorites is "Westin Incident"...umph! You'll have to read it to know what I'm talking about.

Overall, I enjoyed it in its entirety and recommend this book to anyone who loves erotic poetry and sensually spoken words -- Nita Bee "Buzzin' Books" (Detroit, Michigan)

UBAWA: Who did you write this book for?
GPA: I wrote this for everyone who has ever experienced revenge of the orgasm. What I mean by this is anyone who has had an intimate or sexual experience that stays with them and pops in their mind from time to time. So for all of those people and myself is who I wrote this book for.

UBAWA: How did you come up with the idea for this book?
GPA: After writing the previous two books in The Lust Series, The Book of 24 Orgasm and The Land of Multiples, I needed something to complete the trilogy. And Revenge of the Orgasm is extremely personal.

UBAWA: What do you want readers to take away from this book?
GPA: After reading Revenge of the Orgasm, I want readers to know that you can tell your own story without telling anyone else's business. And next, I need everyone to know that I'm the best ever, sensual or otherwise.

Meet TP Miller, author of "A Woman Scorned"

5/23/2013

Picture
T.P. Miller, a new comer to the literary game has been writing since she could remember. As a long time reader, she decided that she would start picking up her pen as just a hobby and soon decided that she wanted more. She sat down and penned her first novel, "Out for Blood: The Chosen One Has Come" and was signed to Anexander Books. She is now working on more paranormal and urban books. She lives in a hole somewhere in Birmingham with her husband and two kids.

3 things about TP you may not know

1. She’s a diehard Michael Jackson fan.
2. She can drink coffee all day long, in all types of weather.
3. She can listen to just about anything as far as music. Right now she’s getting more into jazz.

UBAWA: What is your biggest inspiration?
TP: My family. They have supported me and stood behind me the whole time that I've been on this literary journey. As far as who I pull from, I will always say that L.A. Banks is my mentor and inspiration.

UBAWA: What led up to you becoming an author?
TP: I've always been a writer. I put my pen down as life began to get more hectic. It wasn't until the death of my grandmother that I picked it up again. She was always telling me to do what I was happy with.

UBAWA: How would you describe your writing style?
TP: My writing style is complicated. It's simple but full of detail. I love to give a lot of suspense being an urban paranormal author. And I love to have an ending that will leave you talking.

UBAWA: What would you say is the most important thing an author should do before publishing his/her book?
TP: Give the readers a little taste. Let them see what you're working with and you will get readers. It doesn't have to be a complete chapter or anything. Just something to show what you can do.

UBAWA: If you could go back and change one thing about your book, what would it be?
TP: I'd add more scenes to Out for Blood. I'm actually in the process of doing that right now and planning to re-releasing it soon.

UBAWA: When you’re not writing, what are you doing?
TP: Watching cartoons or catching up on shows that I've missed. Right now the main shows are Supernatural and Scandal.

UBAWA: How can readers and others in the literary community reach you?
TP: I'm available by email at vampyrequeen14@yahoo.com or vampyrequeen14@gmail.com
