Nicky VanValkenburgh hails from Greenville, SC. Her latest book is “Train Your Brain, Transform Your Life: Conquer Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in 60 Days, Without Ritalin.’ # of pages = 256 pages

Book Description

Do you (or someone you care about) have Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder? It’s called ADHD and it affects six out of every ten people. The symptoms are restlessness, distraction, disorganization, low arousal, impulsiveness, craving for stimulation, and more. Most doctors prescribe ADHD drugs, but there’s also “brain training for ADHD” that is safe, reliable and effective. It’s so easy, that you can do it while lying flat on your back, with your eyes closed. It’s been described as “the lazy way to get rid of ADHD”. However, it’s also a method that’s used in neuro-therapy clinics across the country, and is supported by empirical research. In her new book, “Train Your Brain, Transform Your Life: How to Conquer ADHD in 60 Days, Without Ritalin” author Nicky VanValkenburgh reveals how to address the root cause of ADHD, by stimulating and arousing your brain. It’s a method that you can practice in the comfort of your own home, without ever stepping foot inside a clinic. Finally, there is a way to interrupt your ADHD and create new neural pathways for peak performance. As you read Nicky’s book, you’ll realize that you have every reason to be optimistic about overcoming ADHD. It’s time to train your brain and transform your life!

Mini Author Bio

Nicky VanValkenburgh is the author of ‘Train Your Brain, Transform Your Life: Conquer Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in 60 Days, Without Ritalin.’  This book was voted “Best Self Improvement Book of 2011” by the Mom’s Choice Awards and “Best Motivational Book” by Reader’s Favorites Awards.  Author Nicky VanValkenburgh is a motivational writer with 20 years experience writing for newspapers and magazines. She has a Master's in Journalism and a Bachelor's in Psychology. She is also a contributing writer for Upstate Parent, Low Country Parent and Palmetto Parent magazines, which are published in South Carolina, with a circulation of a quarter million people. Nicky is also the Director of www.Train Your Brain Transform Your Life.com which spotlights her book and 60-day brain training program for ADHD.

*What led up to you becoming an author? I wanted to be a writer since I was a little girl. In college I studied journalism and psychology, wanting to combine the two but not sure how. I got my big break by ghostwriting a book for a psychologist. He emailed me 700 pages of notes and I organized it into a book. After that, I spent seven years selling his products online, creating websites and newsletters, and writing articles. Finally, I decided it was time to develop my own platform. I wrote a new book based on my journey to overcome Attention Deficit Disorder—and what ultimately enabled me to conquer it- which is “brain training” using a home-based system. Now I also sell this home-based brain training system, which is a 60-day protocol using a light and sound machine.

*How long did it take you to complete your book? Three years. It contains over 150 references from journal articles and books, but is written in a conversational tone.

*Is there a particular message in your books you would like for your readers to grasp? Sometimes people are hesitant to try new things, because they want scientific evidence and proof that it works. That’s why I wrote my book, Train Your Brain, Transform Your Life. I wanted to share the science, mixed with personal stories, insights and experiences. I discuss my personal experiences with ADHD, and explain the science behind the brain training technology. By reading my book, you will be able to examine the facts for yourself and make an informed decision as to whether brain training is right for you. I also share my own struggle with ADHD (which includes taking Ritalin and Adderall) and why I finally gave up drugs in favor of a more natural treatment. The book is for sale on my website (www.trainyourbraintransformyourlife.com)  as well as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, and other online booksellers.

*What is your biggest inspiration for writing? It’s like an itch—I love to write and look for places to get published. I’m driven to express myself, share my personal experiences and help others.

*If you could give one piece of advice to an up and coming author, what would it be? Take writing classes, learn the craft of writing, write about things you are passionate about, and look for opportunities to get published in as many places as you possibly can.

*What do you have planned next? My next project is a book about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

*How can readers, publishers, and others in the literary community reach you? Check out my website www.trainyourbraintransformyourlife.com
